New Nordic
So first up in the top trending style factors - let's dive into the New Nordic as we go on a new journey where the chic minimalism of Scandi Style morphs gently from the clean lines, neutral simplicity and famous Scandinavian furniture functionality that emerged in the early 20th century. Scandi style is often compared to Mid Century modern, and while similar in the concept of functional furniture, Mid Century modern is renowned for it's rich dark hues where Scandinavian spaces are renowned for being lighter, brighter spaces. The New Nordic aesthetic brings the more natural elements of old rustic woods, ropes and plants, this style has interestingly been celebrated in Northern Europe from as far back as the 1950's. Growing in popularity at a rapid rate as it reaches our British and International shores, the globally influenced warm, cosy New Nordic look is giving us options to modernise our old English rustic and reclaimed looks as is perfectly demonstrated in this beautiful dreamy New Nordic room by Marzena.Marideko. I love the use of Nordic Hanging Stars perfectly co ordinate this harmonious room scheme.

New Nordic developed from the ever popular and timeless clean lines of Scandinavian style, which gently moved into ‘Hygge’ (pronounced ‘hoo-guh' ) the Danish word for cosy. The Scandi style embraced pre-loved and gently worn in furniture, pastel pinks, greys and whites harmonised with beige, rattan, plants and soft light woods now moves toward matte black and we see the reintroduction of beige and cream rather than the stark whites with pinks and greys. This lovely Scandi style room for example can change easily to New Nordic by swapping out the pink for Moroccan, Ikat or geometric textiles, rugs and cushions in with blacks and beige's, layering blankets and introducing natural real wood rustic elements.
New Nordic utterly embraces the concept of the Hygge cosy style, yet gives a nod to reclaimed and natural wood elements and is for those who appreciate the little things in life - bring on the global and gold accessories shopping to complete the look!
Black makes an unexpected come back to mix things up this season, along with earthenware, buff leather, sheepskin, and global nomadic influences.

So you see that moving to New Nordic from Scandi or Hygge really is quite simple, just layer up, enjoy dusting off those global travel Nomadic and Bohemian influences .
For children's rooms, soft, light toned, painted and natural woods, matte pastels are key with subtle hints of white, black, natural materials, stimulating art pieces contrast beautifully with pops of colour from tassels and pom poms.
